The other day I was reminded of the song I knew (from way back in my youth), by Randy Stonehill, “Stop the world, I want to get off…..”. Do you ever feel that way??? Sometimes things of this world can be overwhelming. The past few weeks have been mostly good, but had a few moments like that for me; costly car repairs (on both cars), health issues for the family, trouble at work, and sometimes just the daily grind of chores can flood you!
This morning I woke to hear Michael W. Smith crooning on the radio, an old hymn written by Helen Lemmel…..
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His Glory and Grace.”
Last week a wise and godly person shared some advise with me, she said, “Hold tightly to what is eternal, but loosely to what is temporal”. Ahhh, something I need to remind myself of daily! So easy to say, but so difficult to do sometimes! And yet it makes perfect sense! Why stress out on things that one year from now we won’t even remember?
Col. 3:2 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things”. That is my prayer and my desire for today, and the rest of 2012 – to not stress out on the material things, but keep my focus ”on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”. Happy 2012!!!
Yes, I remember that song and sing it myself at times!
It sounds like you have your mind set right – in spite of the challenging circumstances. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and that I love you. I hope you have a great week!
Thanks…….good reminder for me today with decisions to make
That song “Turn your Eyes upon Jesus ……was sung after the funeral service (at the grave sight) when Darrell Huber was burried 15 years ago. Please sing it (at the grave) after my funeral O.K.
@Doris, you are so sweet – thanks for the prayers. Love you too!!
@Mom, you are too funny. Which song should we sing at your funeral, “Stop this world, I want to get off” or “Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus”?? JK
Seriously, “Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus” is such a simple yet powerful little song! We’ll sing it just for you!
