Service

When Scott brought the mail in this afternoon, he said, “You are not going to want to see this”.   I just thought he might be talking about my latest Kohl’s bill.  🙂  Unfortunately it was more serious then that.    I received a summons for jury service in the United States District Court located in downtown Columbus.   This court decides criminal and civil cases, and serves over 5 million citizens in 48 of the 88 Ohio counties.   Guess what month I have to serve?   Of course, it would have to be December!   Like that month isn’t already chocked full of activities!

Scott was feeling sorry for me, but I reminded him that I’m a stay at home Mom who doesn’t get to dress up and go to work everyday, so I’m kind of looking forward to it (is that weird or what?), plus I get paid (yeah!).   My only request is that Scott take me for a Sunday afternoon drive downtown to show me where the parking garages are and how to navigate downtown.    I’ve already decided that I’m going to enjoy this – I really don’t have much choice.   It’s an honor to serve!

Thanks!  🙂

Fall means Football!

Landon (age 10) played his last football game of the season yesterday.    Inspite of having a rough season, the Giants won their game in the Turkey Bowl yesterday!   The score was 20-12.   It was a close game and fun to watch!    Landon had perfect attendance to all the games and practices this year, and we are so proud of how hard he worked.    Go Giants!!!

Some of the positions Landon played this year were: left guard, cornerback, linebacker, def. tackle, and def. end.   Yes, I had to ask Scott to explain those to me!   🙂

Look out for #3!!!

Two of Landon’s biggest fans this year were his Dad and his Papa Beachy.   It was special to have such support and encouragement!

Pumpkin Pie

Today I entered a Pumpkin Pie contest at a Fall Festival.   I don’t consider myself to be an outstanding baker (although I can hold my own), but thought I’d try for the $100 grand prize.    First prize went to a pumpkin cheese “cake” (hmmm, I thought this was a pie contest), second prize went to a 3 layer pumpkin pie, with tons of cool whip on top, and I won third prize with a delicious custard pumpkin pie!!!   It was my Mother’s recipe, and I think she would have been proud to taste it.   My prize was a beautiful “baking bundle” full of great baking supplies (spices, towel, Onida server, recipe book, Pyrex dish).     There were many great pies there, and I’m honored that the judges liked mine!

Fall is Here!

We are enjoying the change of the season here in Columbus.   Fall is definately here!    This weekend, our family went to the Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park and did some hiking.   We brought our camera along and took some snap shots.   After watching “Jon & Kate Plus Eight” (the episode where their family of 10 posed for a magazine cover shot), taking a few pictures of our family was breeze!  🙂

Go Buckeyes!

Our family loves the Ohio State Buckeyes!   Last weekend we went down on campus to the Schottenstein Center to see the “Brutus on Parade” statues.    They were lots of fun to see – over 30 different themed Brutuses.    The kids loved having their pictures taken with them!

Even with the Buckeyes out of town for the game that weekend, there were still lots of people down on campus.   Lots of other people had the same idea that we had for taking pictures with Brutus.

There were a lot of different themes.    However there wasn’t a Star Wars Brutus or an Amish Brutus.  🙂
