It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of hymns.  Partly because the lyrics are chocked-full of timeless truths!  These ageless songs are poetic and they minister to the soul.  Sometimes when I don’t know how to voice my prayers, I’m led to a hymn that describes my heart perfectly.

Today was one of those times.  This beautiful hymn, written by Benjamin Mansell Ramsy, is a prayer for the Lord to teach and guide us when we don’t know the path to take.  Check out the lyrics – they’re lovely…….

  1. Teach me Thy way, O Lord, teach me Thy way!
    Thy guiding grace afford, teach me Thy way!
    Help me to walk aright, more by faith, less by sight;
    Lead me with heav’nly light, teach me Thy way!
  2. When I am sad at heart, teach me Thy way!
    When earthly joys depart, teach me Thy way!
    In hours of loneliness, in times of dire distress,
    In failure or success, teach me Thy way!
  3. When doubts and fears arise, teach me Thy way!
    When storms o’erspread the skies, teach me Thy way!
    Shine through the cloud and rain, through sorrow, toil, and pain;
    Make Thou my pathway plain, teach me Thy way!
  4. Long as my life shall last, teach me Thy way!
    Where’er my lot be cast, teach me Thy way!
    Until the race is run, until the journey’s done,
    Until the crown is won, teach me Thy way!https://www.hymnal.net/en/hymn/h/406?

He Giveth More Grace

Three weeks ago today, we took Byron to Children’s Hospital ER, and our lives were changed forever with a medical diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes!   It was a shock to us and our lives were thrown in a tail spin!

The first few days, we went day-by-day, in a blur, just trying to manage and survive.  Since then we have gone through some of the grief stages – shock, anger, depression, and then finally, acceptance comes.

Some days are really rough, but I can honestly say that through the past few weeks we have felt God’s presence with us.  Byron and myself are very squeamish when it comes to needles/blood, but God has given us strength to do things we never thought that we could do!!!

This beautiful hymn, by Annie J Flint, totally describes our past few weeks.  I love the verse that talks about “when our strength has failed, and the day is half done“.  (We’ve had a few of those lately) 🙂   We have truly felt God’s increased strength, added mercy, and yes, multiplied peace.  I’m so thankful that God’s grace has no measure and His power no boundaries!!!

“He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.”
